Imagining The Future. Leonardo da Vinci: In The Mind Of An Italian Genius.

In honour of Leonardo Da Vinci, Dolce&Gabbana and Confindustria are supporting entrepreneurship as a catalyst for progress.

An exhibition titled ‘Imagining The Future: Leonardo da Vinci: In The Mind Of An Italian Genius’ will open to the public on June 20th at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library in Washington D.C., a symbol of social gathering that has become the hub of American institutions. To bring the emblem of Italian genius, Leonardo da Vinci, to America, Confindustria collaborated with Intesa Sanpaolo, ITA Airways, 24 ORE Cultura, Dolce&Gabbana, Dompé, Pirelli, and Trenitalia to create the exhibition, curated by Mr. Alberto Rocca, Director of the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana. As a pioneer in the fields of art, knowledge, science, and research, Leonardo da Vinci is a celebration of ‘know-how’ that distinguishes Italian enterprises.

The exhibition showcases 12 autograph drawings selected from the 1,119 sheets of the Codex Atlanticus, which will be on display until August 20th. For this special occasion, the Chiaravalle tower clock, a unique creation by Dolce&Gabbana Alta Orologeria, will be placed on exhibit in the Partner Hall. These works, preserved in Italy at the Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana, bear witness to Leonardo’s intellectual life for over forty years, from 1478 to 1519. For the first time in the United States, the public will have the opportunity to admire Italian innovation through a collection of futuristic projects in the fields of research, mechanics, engineering, and flight.

Confindustria, along with its partners, organized ‘Imagining The Future’ to promote entrepreneurship as a driving force for economic, social, and civil growth in every country. Leonardo da Vinci perfectly embodies the desire for entrepreneurship, guiding the great artist in transforming his brightest insights into concrete and revolutionary projects. This same fusion between tradition and innovation, vision and practicality, accompanies those who lead a company. This exhibition in Washington represents a fundamental step in spreading awareness of Italy’s cultural heritage, offering an extraordinary synthesis of the dimensions that drive the business world.

Dolce&Gabbana Alta Orologeria celebrates Italian excellence

Since its establishment, Dolce&Gabbana supports the enhancement of the artistic, cultural and historical heritage of Italy, showcasing and promoting the excellence of the craftsmen of the Country and their innovative instinct across the world: a priceless treasure that needs to be preserved from the wear of time, inevitably intertwining with the history, culture and traditions of the peninsula.

For the great exhibition Imagining the future. Leonardo da Vinci: in the mind of an Italian genius, Dolce&Gabbana once again crosses the Italian borders to bring the beauty of the Belpaese, its courage in taking chances and entrepreneurial spirit, the know-how of the best tradition and the yearning for a modern Renaissance, overseas in a great celebration of the ultimate genius, Leonardo.

Exceptionally lent from the Biblioteca Ambrosiana, who received it as a gift to commemorate the fifth century since the death of Leonardo, the Chiaravalle tower clock will be on display. A unique Dolce&Gabbana Alta Orologeria creation inspired by the complex astronomical machine of the Chiaravalle abbey completed according to the intuitions of the Renaissance genius illustrated on the pages of his Codex Atlanticus. This valuable artistic and cultural work is accompanied by other watchmaking creations by Dolce&Gabbana inspired by Italian history, echoing Leonardo and his mechanical and astronomical studies and the marvel of the tables of the Codex: a relationship between intuition and mastery. Highlighting, once again, that there will always be something that the mind and hands of men will be able to do better than any machine: creating beauty that endures, nourishes and blossoms.
